The wedding portrait session is one part of the day where I’ll take a more active role in the direction of family portraits, wedding party portraits and couple portraits. Whether the photos are done before or after the ceremony, I’ll work with you (and your planner if you are using one) to come up with a plan for the wedding portraits that makes the best use of the location, time, weather and light that’s available. Because each family is unique, and some couples want a handful of formal shots and others want many more, I ask couples to work up a portrait list before the wedding so that I can make sure that I grab all those important shots and keep that part of the day organized so that everyone can get back to celebrating together. For couple portraits, I like to take some time with couples to walk around together in a beautiful space to get a variety of shots and to incorporate movement and real moments. While some shots are minimally directed, my favourites come about when couples are just enjoying their time together and naturally interacting as the portrait session offers a quiet reprieve from the hustle and bustle of the day and a chance for the couple to connect.
